The Math Center offers both online tutoring and on-campus walk-in tutoring.
Online Tutoring (Math 044)
Trained online tutors are available in the online Math 95 and 96 courses as well as the online Math 44 course. Students in the Math 15 refresher course can also receive online tutoring by signing up for the Math 44 course. You may receive assistance from tutors by posting questions on the discussion board or by sending the tutor an email message. The tutor will respond as soon as possible. You may set up an online chat with a tutor at a mutually agreeable time. If the "Who's Online" tab is available, you may check to see if a tutor is currently online.
If registered for Math 44, click here Webct to sign in.
If not registered, click here Reg-e to sign up.
On-campus tutoring
Bring your student ID card (CSID) to the Math Center to receive walk-in tutoring during hours of operation (see Center Hours). Your CSID is required at all times to use the Math Center.

This section outlines tutoring services offered by the Math Center, both online and on campus. Click on the links below to access any area for more information.
Chat
Tutors are available for an online chat. Email any of the online tutors to schedule a day and time to meet in the online chat room. As with most chat rooms, you correspond by typing messages. Blackboard's chat room also features an interactive white board on which both you can the tutor can write math expressions and draw diagrams. If you need in depth help, a one-on-one chat can give you the after-hours help you need. Chat rooms are synchronous activities. That is, you need to arrange to meet someone at a specific time. Both parties must be present at the same time.

Discussion Board
The Discussion Board a repository of questions posted by students and answers posted by tutors and fellow students. The Discussion board is organized into a structured outline to help you locate information quickly. The major categories are courses - prealgebra, elementary algebra and geometry, and intermediate algebra and geometry. Within each category are topics. These topics are the chapter headings for the current textbook used in the Math Center. So, if you have a question on solving systems of equations, for example, you would go to the Systems of Equations topic in the Intermediate Algebra category and browse through the existing questions to see if your question has already been answered. If not, you can post a message, then monitor the discussion board for a response. One advantage of the discussion board is that you can post a message any time, day or night. Others will respond as they log in. No need to set up a meeting as with the chat room.

Mail
Mail provides a way to communicate directly with a tutor. You can leave a mail message for a tutor. When they log into the course and check their mail, they will respond. You can use mail to arrange a specific date and time for an online chat. There is also a link to find out who is online at the time you are online.

Learning Resources
There are several online learning resources that you will find in this course and more will be added as the course is developed. The discussion board is a good place to find answers to math questions. The Mail and Chat features can put you in touch with a tutor for individual assistance. Web Links in the Course Tools menu directs you to online resources including libraries, the City College Math Center Website, and several helpful online math resources. Students have found the Virtual Math Lab at WTAMU particularly helpful. You'll find an icon on the Home Page entitled Links to WTAMU tutorials for Elementary Algebra that organizes the tutorials by category. In addition, students are welcome to use the resources available in the Math Center, including one-on-one tutoring and computers to access the Math 15 online material.

Syllabus
Math 44 is an online, non-graded (credit/no credit) class that serves as a center for information, communication and resources for the Math Center classes (On-Campus, Online, and Refresher courses) as well as students from other courses that use Math Center tutorial services. Students can post questions on the Discussion Board, e-mail tutors with the Mail tool, arrange a one-on-one Chat with a tutor, and follow useful links in the Web Links section. Future plans include the Math Center orientation and a corresponding quiz, and a connection to iTunes U, where students can develop instructional modules as podcasts.

Tutors- On campus
Trained tutors and professors are available throughout the day in the Math Center (L-208). The tutors are there to help you, but it is up to you to contact them if you are having difficulty. Many times you will find that one or two words from a tutor can help clear up difficulties that could take you up to hours on your own. If you feel that you need help, just go back to the Tutoring room (L-208D)to sign up for a tutor.
Different tutors are available at different times, so when you find a tutor you feel you can work with effectively, you should plan your lab hours around their hours. Schedules for tutors are posted on the bulletin board. Tutors and professors are available for tutoring, not teaching. Tutors are there to help you, if you have worked the problems and still have a question. Tutors are available to teach you the entire course because they have to be shared with other students. Because of the large number of students, tutors may only be able to spend 5 or 10 minutes at a time with you. so, prepare your questions well to get the maximum benefi of your time with a tutor.

Tutors - Online
You can access tutors online via a Blackboard course. If you are enrolled in the online self-paced Math 95 or Math 96 course, you have online tutors assigned to your course. If not, you can access tutors in the online Math 44 Blackboard course. Within that course, you can receive tutor help via the Discussion Board, Mail, or Chat room.
